The first scene that comes to mind when I hear the title is Leslie Nielsen trying to hide how bad a dancer he is by talking. Then, I remember there is more disco music that there are murders and because of the time of production, it is a current happening to see producers dilute action within dialogue.
Prom Night is easily compared to Halloween and Friday the 13th which started the slasher movement. However, it can be proud of having inspired a new style: the Scream series, the I Know What You Did Last Summer series, Urben Legends, etc.
The assassin uses an axe and wears a black hood. It is not very creative but because the sequels to this movie will have nothing to do with this one, I won’t complain too much.
The actors in this movie are now among the most popular (Jamie Lee Curtis, Leslie Nielsen, John Travolta). However, we sort of get the feeling the director asked them to act badly in the movie.
The quality of the movie is good, the acting average. The scenario is simple but is pleasing for a horror movie made over twenty years ago.
