Perceived as one of the worst of the series, this movie is still faithful in many points to its predecessors. The murders are well thought of, the special effects are short yet realistic, the actors are acceptable.
The characters aren’t, for the most part, typical clichés. Because we are watching disturbed teenagers, it a bit easier to realize such an exploit. Furthermore, because they have created such a long series, the authors must innovate without destroying the essence of the series. Tommy, the hero, fights pretty well and this is something we don’t see enough.
Two basic rules to making a successful horror movie are broken. First of all, a child fights against Jason and survives, without a scratch. Then, at the beginning, a human being kills, thus starting a competition with Jason and stealing his role.
Birefly, it may not be the best in the series but it is certainly not the worst. It is very representative of the series even considering the finale.
