Night Flier, The

"He who travels by night…"

Richard, a solitary journalist hasn’t made the cover page of the tabloid paper for which he is a photographer. He is informed of a mystery that intrigues many people. The legend says that a man travels during the night on board of a black plane and murders in a vampire-like manner and leaves after placing a pile of dirt behind him.

A newly hired girl at work tries to invade Richard’s personal space. He is her mentor. She admires him because his pictures capture the essence of the moment and he is always at the right place, at the right time. But Richard doesn’t let himself be charmed.

Then, one day, the grumpy photographer loses his mission of researching on the serial killer because he doesn’t pay enough attention to the story. The one who inherits of the story is the apprentice. They decide to combine their skills and solve the mystery together.

Originality

A bit slow in its worst parts, this film plunges us in curiosity. We wish to know the motives of the murderer, how he chooses his victims and I suppose that we should be extremely curious in wondering what this man, who hides in the darkness, looks like. However, his face is plastered on the movie’s case and on promotional posters. This wasn’t a very good idea. Furthermore, whatever it may be that intrigues you in this film; regardless of what you’d die to learn at the end of the movie, know that the conclusion will not fulfill your desires.

The story eternizes itself on Richard, for a reason that will be explained later on. He is an interesting character that doesn’t fit the mold: he creates the news. He breaks down tombstones, dirties them with his blood and moves cadavers: all this to immortalize the moment on film and please his public.

Anyhow, this film is still violent and quite interesting but it isn’t the kind of film we never get tired of watching because of its final reversal that changes the significance of the film in general in a rather painful manner.
