"Alice controled her dreams until someone got a hold of her nightmares…"

Kristen, Joey and Kincaid, the last survivors of Elm Street, discover that Freddy Krueger is back. He is back to end his quest by killing the remaining children of the street. When Kristen is about to pass away, she gives her power to Alice, her close friend. Soon afterwards, Alice learns to control her dreams.

Freddy, who has been offered a link to the dreams of new teenagers, starts killing again. However, each time Freddy murders another teenager, Alice inherits from the victim’s power.

This movie is, without a doubt, the best of the series. Of course, the first movie was more mysterious and more intense but the original does nothing more than introduce a concept. Just like in the fifth movie of the series, we witness very well developed characters that we can relate to. Debbie, a culturist who fears insects; Sheila, an asthmatic lunatic; Dan, a jock and Rick, a martial artist. Alice, the protagonist, seems timid and mysterious at the beginning of the movie but once she starts earning the power of her deceased friends, everything changes.

The fact that the more a series advances, the less we take it seriously doesn’t affect A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. The murders are so original and unexpected that they become amusing. Nothing is stupid however because everything happens in a dream.

Something that caught my attention was that the victims fight Freddy and counter-attack by using their own special gifts and powers. However, some characters are victims of their phobias and die, such as Sheila who is sucked in while she is already asthmatic and Debbie who fears insects and gets transformed into one.

The special effects and the actors of this series (excluding the second movie, of course) have never disappointed me. This movie is definitively one of my favorites of all time.
